Good job on the drawing! Hey I was wondering if you considered to design the system in a way that you are able to keep the ash from burning the wood like a Co-generation plant does? Because I know that ash could be really useful later on if your dad was planning on building anything with concrete or your parents could use that ash in their garden. Hey Brit! You were mentioning that the system and the hot water tank are not the most aesthetically pleasing. Have you considered a simple room partition like this:
Hey Jordan, That’s a great idea I do need to design something for my house as my mom is very unimpressed with the big green water tank in her living room. I’m not sure yet if the Japanese style will work in our home or if we need something a little more rustic to fit our atmosphere. Thank you for the suggestion though it definitely has me thinking of what I can do to improve the look!
Haha ya i figured that one wouldn't work in your home(Stuffed bears, and modern/oriental design don't exactly work well together.) While I was looking at this one though I had also googled "rustic room parition" but wasn't fully impressed with them. They do give some ideas if you are considering designing your own.
Yes of course, I have talked it over with my dad and your partition has given us some great ideas. We will pursue the design in the summer. I will keep you posted on the progress!
Make sure your partition design is made from something that is noncombustible (maybe some reclaimed steel?), as it will be close to the fire. This could also be used to keep little kids or pets away from the fireplace.
